Step by step guide to getting a high ranking website

By Steve Thomas | February 26, 2009

The following is a proven plan for getting real targeted and high volume search engine traffic. Certain steps may not be applicable to you, but the order is important.

Most websites are not built for S.E.O and will always struggle for rankings. Consider starting from scratch if your website has never had a lot of hits.

Get a good grip of your keywords for you particular niche, this is very important and will affect your results if you target the wrong keywords.

If your starting a new website, try to get hold of a aged domain, ideally with Google PR and with relevant back links.

The domain name should be in your specific field or niche area, the more relevant the better. Make sure it does not have a Google penalty in effect.

Next, make sure you get your website up as quickly as possible and start name you pages closely to you main target keywords, target one keyword per page if you can.

When using one page to target a keyword, the most import factor is the page title and the relevancy of the content on the page.

Target as many keywords as you can, go for the long trail. For S.E.O, get as many content pages on you website as you can.

You should have a number of main pages where you have your best content on and lots of other pages being added on a regular basis, with lots of interlinking between pages.

The next crucial step is to get lots of quality back links to all your internal pages and home page. Its very important to get quality links or your campaign will suffer.

Its very important to build your links steadily, spread over a period of time. The most import part of your back link should be the anchor text.

Its very important to use as many different variations as possible, including your selected keywords. If its looks natural then search engines will value the link more.

The more relevant the site is to your niche or particular field the better the S.E.O gain will be, even semi related is helpful.

As a minimum you should try to get links that are related or semi related to you niche.

Get your links from a vide variety of sites and networks of sites. If all you link come from the same site or sits on similar I.P address, they will be valued less.

If all the above is done properly, you will get a healthy amount of traffic. You can try to do it all your self, or life can made a lot easier if you hire a quality S.E.O, who should already be using the above steps for results.
